Let’s be clear. Google does not want an open platform for everybody. It wants its Android platform to be dominant on a number of handsets made by other manufacturers like HTC and Motorola. It does not want to enable people to “freely roam the Web for apps that work on many devices” unless “many devices” refers to phones running different versions of Android.
